Until November 17, an interactive photo exhibition “Moments of Emotional Safety in My Family” can be viewed in the 1st-floor corridor of the NGO House (Ieriķu iela 43a, Riga). The exhibition was created by the association “Bookship “Krišjānis Valdemārs”” as part of the project “Vidzemīte - for Navy families”.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the importance of emotional safety in the family and portrays the everyday strength of families, allowing visitors to consider their own experiences as well. It features moments captured by photographer Marta Dance from the event “Family Day on the Coast of Vidzemīte” held this summer, in which families with children with functional disabilities also took part. Each photograph is accompanied by a short quote or suggestion that reminds us of the importance of support and mutual care in the family.
The exhibition is designed as an interactive experience in which visitors are invited not only to view the photographs but also to take part themselves. Visitors can put together a puzzle by matching words that describe both traumatic and healing moments in life, as well as choose which of four playhouses they would like to live in. Each playhouse reflects different feelings - safety, love, peace, or fear.
The exhibition also asks the question “What is your family?”, to which its creators offer an answer that speaks to every visitor:
“Family - not just blood and a name,
but a place where warmth awaits you.
Those who laugh with you until dawn,
and stay close when times are hard.
Mom, dad, brother or sister.
A friend who has become close.
Family is where hearts know one another,
where no one feels out of place.
It grows and changes, expands, shrinks,
but love does not disappear!”
