NVO House invites you to the online seminar “NGO Legal Guide: from founding to changes and re-registration”

NVO House invites representatives of Riga non-governmental organizations, associations and foundations, to apply for the online seminar “NGO Legal Guide: from founding to changes and re-registration”, which will take place on Thursday, 29 October 2026, from 14:00 to 17:00.

The seminar will look at the two legal forms through which the work of the non-governmental sector can be carried out. What needs to be done to establish a legal entity, an association or a foundation, what documents need to be prepared, and how to submit them to the Register of Enterprises. What to do if the statutes no longer correspond to the NGO’s activities or the real situation, if the board is too large or too small. What to do if a board member leaves office, changes their surname, no longer wants to serve on the board, or is simply unreachable? How can all these changes be re-registered with the Register of Enterprises, and how should the annual and extraordinary members’ meeting be properly convened. The issue of beneficial owners will also be discussed.

The seminar programme:

• •Need for registration;
• •Which legal form to choose - association or foundation;
• •Establishing legal capacity;
• •Submission of documents to the Register of Enterprises;
• •Establishing capacity to act - decision of the Register of Enterprises;
• •NGO activities (statutes, board, convening and organizing meetings, ensuring quorum, etc.);
• •Re-registration of the necessary changes;
• •Questions.

The session will be led by Kitija Kalsnava, lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Rīga Stradiņš University, who has been working as a consultant for non-governmental organizations since 2012.
