Oedipus
A philosophical experience with mistakes
How much of our lives do we really choose ourselves?
“Oedipus” is a study of a man trying to understand to what extent he is the author of his own life. The performance begins after the death of King Oedipus and continues in an apparent afterlife, in which Oedipus, together with his alter ego Him, tries to make sense of his fate.
Choice and inevitability, guilt and responsibility, fear and the desire to determine one’s own life. The search for the father who gave the order, the shepherd who did not carry it out, and the man who killed King Laius inevitably leads back to Oedipus himself. But what does it mean to be guilty of something you did not know? And what does it mean to be responsible for a choice that seemed at that moment to be the only right one? Faith in fate, which sometimes becomes a convenient way to evade responsibility, and the moment when the search for the guilty turns into a question: if disaster is right here, then who is really to blame?
Perhaps the most dangerous thing is not fate, from which there is no escape, but the conviction that our choices do not matter.
