Opera "The Tales of Hoffmann"
Jacques Offenbach's "The Tales of Hoffmann" was created based on motifs from E. T. A. Hoffmann's stories, which play out illusions of love and true love, allowing the composer to create a rich musical score.
The opera lets you discover the misfortunes in the life of a successful artist. Hoffmann recalls the times when he was truly in love: with the graceful Olympia, who turned out to be a scientific invention rather than a living woman; the seriously ill Antonia, who was killed by her passion for vocal art; and the courtesan Giulietta, whose interest in Hoffmann was selfish and quickly fleeting. Hoffmann is convinced that Stella, whom he now loves madly, is the ideal woman, because she combines the best qualities of Olympia, Antonia, and Giulietta.
The fifth production at the Latvian National Opera is being staged under the musical direction of French maestro Frédéric Chaslin. In director Aik Karapetyan's version, this opera will be an excitingly fun and visual adventure with beautiful music.
