Everyone has an idea of William Shakespeare’s “Othello.” If nothing else, then at least this much: that the Moor strangles his beautiful and faithful wife Desdemona in a fit of jealousy.

Many know or remember that Othello is an outstanding military commander and a general of the Republic of Venice. It is precisely him, the black man, that the senator’s daughter, the most beautiful and desirable bride of Venice, Desdemona, falls in love with and follows to a foreign land. Army life, the envy of those around them, and intrigues turn this dreamlike life into a nightmare.

The genre of the performance is crime drama.
