The Ferryman

In the performance 'The Ferryman', together with Inga, the audience will get to know the play's hero, the mythical Ferryman, and journey into the jungle, the depths of the river, the banks of the Aiviekste, and the darkened paths of Inga's childhood.

Before the world was brought to a halt by the pandemic, Inga went to the jungle to restore her physical and mental health, but only after she became even sicker did she finally manage to recover.

The director says about this experience: “From the very beginning of humanity, one of the most important stories is about a hero who hears the call, sets out on a journey, completes various tasks, goes through dangerous situations, dies in order to be reborn, and returns home. My journey was called by the Ferryman, taking me to the jungles of Mexico, where, on my deathbed, overcome by illness, I stopped running from myself, looked into the scars of the past and the overgrown paths of my psyche.

I hope that this story of experience, in which I had to call things by their true names, can also help others realize that we are not alone in our illnesses and sorrows, that each of us sometimes feels lost, that it is only natural to fall, get back up, and keep going during the course of our lives, because, as the Ferryman whispers, birth and death are one and the same.”

The performance will have an unusual seating arrangement. Before the performance, we will ask you to take off your shoes.
