Youth Event “Future Museum. Gaile. Belševica”

On November 7 at 5: 00 PM, the third event in the “Future Museum” series, “Future Museum. Gaile. Belševica,” will take place in the permanent exhibition “Procrastination and Creation” of the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music at 6 Mārstaļu Street, Riga. At this author evening, poet, writer, and playwright Inga Gaile will create a dialogue with one of the most important figures in Latvian literature, poet Vizma Belševica. The musical setting for the event will be created by Kārlis Rozentāls, whose performance will feature echoes of the poetry of Inga Gaile and Vizma Belševica.

“Future Museum” is a series of six events at the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music, in which six contemporary women authors create a dialogue with literary history at author evenings. By choosing as their conversation partners the literary classics represented in the exhibition “Procrastination and Creation” or by focusing on themes related to the creative process, the authors will seek links between the history of literature and visions of the future of preserving cultural heritage. The main heroines of the series are this year’s jubilee celebrants Ingmāra Balode, Elvīra Bloma, Inga Gaile, Luīze Pastore, Madara Gruntmane, and Inga Pizāne.

The central event of each evening is a performance created by the author, in which she interprets the theme of the “future museum,” gives readings, shares her experience, offers creative activities, or surprises the audience in other artistic disciplines. The events are also supplemented by flash exhibitions, which display objects belonging to the authors that symbolically become possible exhibits for a future museum.

Students of Emīls Dārziņš Music School will provide the musical introduction and conclusion of the event, and under the guidance of teacher Andris Dzenītis they will have created new works - compositions inspired by the works of both contemporary poets and the classics they have chosen.

Tickets can be purchased in the “Mobilly” app and at biletes.rmm.lv. The number of tickets is limited.
