Porcelain Decoration Workshop “Heroines”
In November, the creative workshop at the Riga Porcelain Museum offers a special opportunity for creativity in the spirit of patriotic celebrations.
The creative porcelain decoration workshops at the Riga Porcelain Museum take place every month. Visitors can paint porcelain tableware, create porcelain decorations, and try various other porcelain-related techniques. In addition to the regular offer, a special creative workshop is held every month. In November, its theme is the anniversary of the founding of the Latvian state.
The creative workshop “Heroines” will invite participants to think about how to express ideas such as the founding of the Latvian state and independence in artistic form, as well as to honor people who, in different periods, have contributed to the development of the state and society. Special attention will be given to the diverse image of women in Latvian history, in politics and culture, in emergency situations and everyday life, as well as to their contribution to the common well-being of society.
The workshop will also encourage attention to less visible but significant contributions, such as the tableware and decorations created by women artists working in the porcelain industry, which have enriched everyday surroundings. Participants will be able to use their imagination to creatively interpret Latvian history, culture, and human experience.
During the creative process, the offer includes using the decal technique. A decal is a carrier material treated with ceramic paint, a kind of “transfer picture.” From decal sheets, depending on imagination and manual dexterity, it will be possible to cut out various shapes. Using one shape or creating a collage from several, participants will be able to create a simpler or more complex composition on the vessel. After the vessel is fired in a ceramic kiln, the decal will fuse into the porcelain glaze, and the resulting composition will become a lasting decoration for the vessel that can be safely used in everyday life.
The offer also includes ready-made thematic decals that can be used right away or supplemented as desired.
The participation fee for the workshop is EUR 6.70-19.10, depending on the value of the selected item. The fee includes a vessel of choice, decorating materials, consultation with a museum educator, and firing of the item in a ceramic kiln. The fired vessels can be collected at the museum within a few weeks after the creative workshop.
Participants from 7 to 97 years of age are invited to take part in the workshop, both individually and in groups of up to 12 people. The event is also accessible to people with functional impairments, including wheelchair users.
The thematic creative workshop is led by museum educators and artists Vita Lukstiņa and Astra Ratkeviča.
The workshop is available in November from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12.00 to 18.00, by prior registration.
Advance registration is mandatory by phone +371 26406354. Calls are accepted from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12.00 to 17.30.
