“Princess Olympics” | Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre

The dramatization uses stories by Piret Raud in Maima Grīnberga's translation.

We all know what the Olympic Games are. But only a few know what the princess Olympics are. These are competitions that cannot be won without princesses, luck, and a generous dose of imagination.

Yes, in the princess Olympics, just like in the regular ones, there are different sports, there are participants, and they compete. But with princesses, it is different. They have to be ready for anything. They do not know who they will compete against, they do not know where they will compete, but despite that, they are ready to compete. But when we say “they,” we actually mean professional princess sports competitors, who create special fighting princesses, invent all kinds of tactics, and guide these princesses through difficult battles.

The princess sports are varied. From the more classic ones, such as intelligent beauty contests, to speed-falling long jump, underwater singing, and other sports beloved by princesses. Each participant in the princess Olympics may enter up to four princesses. Each one can be entered for a specific sport, and then one can hope that the most suitable princess will draw the competition best suited to her. But another tactic is also possible: one can create a single princess and hope that she will be the best in all sports.

We invite you to watch these fun and exciting competitions and, of course, to cheer on the princesses and their coaches!
