Creative Workshop "Linocut"

Linocut is one of the relief printmaking techniques. This technique is characterized by strong contrast, clear lines, and shapes made of large areas. The term "linocut" refers both to the relief printing technique and to the artwork printed using this technique.

In the workshop, each participant will be able to make a linoleum printing plate based on a design of their own choosing or one they have invented, which we will use to create several prints on paper with ink. We will discover how a single printing plate can be used to create several visually different works of art.

Adults and young artists alike are welcome! For children up to 12 years old, it is recommended that the process take place in the presence of a parent, so that the creative experience can be enjoyed together and the use of printmaking tools can be safe.

The workshop will be led by artist Undīne Ābiķe. In her creative work, Undīne Ābiķe (1998) explores the relationship between a person's inner world, the spectrum of emotions, dreams, and the outer world, nature, using portraiture and the language of symbols. She mainly works in watercolor, trying to reveal different techniques of authorial expression. She holds a bachelor's degree from the Printmaking Department of the Art Academy of Latvia.
