Lashes Grow While Crying

Irbe, Atvars, and Mētra meet at a summer dance camp, at a time when they are going through one of the biggest periods of transformation in their lives, facing the pains of growing up.

With animal-like humanity, they prepare the camp performances, which resemble initiation dances. The young people become increasingly aware of their physicality, while at the same time becoming strangers to themselves. As if the body were an impulsive and ruthless beast, at times making one forget that it contains a being struggling with unimaginably complex inner processes and more vulnerable than ever before.

Irbe, Atvars, and Mētra try to get to know, tame, and understand their new bodies, while also learning to live with other bodies, desires, vulnerability, and choices. “Lashes Grow While Crying” is a performance about the confusing, painful, funny, and inevitable transformation from child to adult for teenagers from the age of 12 and their adults.
