Ghostly comedy

In the Main Hall

Premiere - 17. 12.22.

A play in 2 acts

Five friends and a beauty specialist met the previous night gather in an abandoned manor house to celebrate New Year’s Eve together. The manor has been beautifully restored and turned into a refuge for those for whom the noise and bustle of everyday life have become too much. The friends have not seen each other for a long time, although once they were inseparable. They all try to look successful, even though life has thrown each of them its own challenges.

Writer Kate has recently divorced her husband, architect Daniel has achieved a great deal in his career, but still searches for love on internet dating sites. Ben met Laura only the previous night and brought her along to the celebration as his fiancée. Karl is an actor known to everyone only for a role in a coffee commercial, while his wife Rebecca once received the prestigious BAFTA award. Now their life revolves only around their two children.

The celebration and shared drinking bring out each person’s true dreams, which have been pushed aside. Although everyone has their own troubles, they will also have to discover that a ghost really does live in the abandoned manor.

The play “New Year’s Retreat” (originally “The Priory”) began its success in 2008 at London’s Royal Court Theatre, and productions of it still make people laugh in many countries around the world. The play received the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award in the category “Best New Comedy”.
