Viesturs Kairišs' film Uļa
On Friday, October 30, at 6:00 p.m., everyone interested is invited to a screening of director Viesturs Kairišs' new film Uļa at the Valka Municipality Cultural Center.
Uļa is a visually and emotionally powerful story about identity, growing up, the search for belonging, and the courage to be yourself. The film is set in Latvia in the late 1960s.
The film's main character, Uļa, is a teenage girl growing up in an Old Believer family, whose height is approaching two meters. Living on an isolated rural homestead, she feels like a stranger in her own family and in the world around her. But everything changes when Uļa's class photo accidentally falls into the hands of basketball coaches. She is taken to Riga, where Uļa is placed on a legendary basketball team.
