"HEY, YOU THERE!" IN JĒKABPILS

On November 14, Imants Kalniņš and Viks’ rock story "Hey, You There!" will be performed at the Krustpils Cultural Center, a contemporary production about love and freedom.

Marking the 85th anniversary year of the legendary Latvian composer Imants Kalniņš, the rock story "Hey, You There!" will гост Jēkabpils in a new interpretation by director Rēzija Kalniņa, one of Imants Kalniņš’s most distinctive stage works.

Created in 1971, Imants Kalniņš’s work is the first rock opera in the history of Latvian music, with a libretto by poet Viks (Viktors Kalniņš). It is based on motifs from the play "Hello Out There!" by the American writer of Armenian origin William Saroyan.

It is a story about a person who has found themselves in an apparently hopeless situation, about facing truth, love, and longing for freedom. More than half a century after the work was created, its central questions remain strikingly relevant - about human freedom, conscience, choices, and the ability to retain humanity.

The production has three main characters - HE, SHE, and CHOIR.

HE - Atis Zviedris, musician, songwriter, and soloist of the rock operas "Lāčplēsis" and "Sphinx."

SHE - Viktorija Majore, one of the brightest Latvian vocal artists of the younger generation, a debutante at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet in Imants Kalniņš’s opera "I Played, I Danced."

CHOIR - The Jasmine Choir, artistic director and conductor Agita Rimšēviča. In the production, the choir is not just a musical accompaniment - it becomes a collective voice and force - inquisitors, prison guards, kindred spirits, the choir of heaven and the Song Festival, capable of influencing the course of events.
