Dream Story
“No dream is ever just a dream.”
What is your deepest hidden desire?
And do you want it so much that you would act on it?
When Frank learns of his wife Alice’s desire for a stranger, his imagination drives him into obsession. Though the intimacy was imagined, what Alice said torments him, and he goes out into the city determined to make his fantasies come true. An unexpected encounter leads Frank deeper into the night, where the boundary between dream and reality is far more fragile and the distance between thought and action is smaller than he ever imagined. A simple conversation turns into a confession that threatens to destroy the relationship between two of the people closest to him…
When Arthur Schnitzler’s “Dream Story” was published in 1926, it caused a scandal, shocking polite 20th-century Viennese society with its unapologetically erotic allure and unprecedented portrayal of the subconscious. A new interpretation of Schnitzler’s work, which will receive its world premiere, has been created by the currently prominent European director Daniel Raggett and acclaimed playwright Simon Stephens (“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”). Together with outstanding stage artists from Latvia, Great Britain, France, and Poland, a fantasy will be dreamt up that will draw back the curtain on our darkest desires.
