“Sēlija Decorative Applied Arts Exhibition ‘Canon’” at Sēļu Sēta

Sēlija Crafts Center “Rūme” has spent the summer preparing for a major international art event. The “Sēlija Decorative Applied Arts Exhibition ‘Canon’” is a project supported by the “Sēlija Cultural Program 2026” and the Jēkabpils Municipality Cultural Administration. Twelve artists will take part in the exhibition, representing different art genres and techniques. The unifying theme of the exhibition is the inner “cultural canon,” which reveals each creative personality’s connection to the cultural-historical, natural, or human values of Sēlija, shaped in them by life and belonging to this region. The display will feature ceramic sculptural works in chamotte clay by Anda Svarāne, felted wool sculptures and decorations by Eva Ķiķēna and Daina Poriete, photography by Mētra Daume, fused glass by Ingrīda Degtjarova, painting by Ieva Zinere, textile mosaics and textile sculptures by Ilona Linarte Ruža, Sarmīte Gailīte, Juris Efneris, and Ieva Svarāne, and jewelry and metal design by Arta Lindmane and Nauris Krastiņš. The first exhibition will open on September 19 at 2:00 PM at the Open-Air Department of the Jēkabpils History Museum, “Sēļu sēta,” where many treasures and artifacts of our cultural-historical region are preserved. On November 6 at 5:00 PM, we will open the exhibition “Canon” at the Rokiškis District Museum, which is located in Sēlija, on the Lithuanian side.
