American playwright Tennessee Williams's memory play The Glass Menagerie (1944) is one of the masterpieces of 20th-century drama, and it is no wonder that directors choose to stage it again and again. Like most of Williams's plays, The Glass Menagerie is deeply autobiographical and reflects the painful fate of both the playwright himself and his sister Rose Isabel. How is a mother to send children out into the world when they are different and do not want to, or rather cannot, follow the accepted paths? In a time when so many of their contemporaries cannot find their place in life, The Glass Menagerie becomes an impeccable metaphor for people trapped in their shadow world. The performance will also be about the fact that the conflict is within us ourselves. Why is it sometimes so hard to let yourself out of the prison of your complexes, doubts, and fears?
"In this play I will continue exploring my relationship with my closest playwright," says director Inese Mičule. In her interpretation, she is especially interested in highlighting the tragedy of the Wingfield family mother and the son Tom's desire to escape from the "glass menagerie," where he is forced to pretend to be someone he is not.
