Dog's Heart
Theatrical performance "DOG'S HEART"
The famous satirical novella Dog's Heart by Mikhail Bulgakov is already 100 years old, and what is even more astonishing is that the events described a century ago are repeating today as well - the intelligentsia is once again becoming unnecessary in its own country, where everything is determined by Sharikovs and Shvonders.
- 08.11.2026 – RIGA, Congress Hall
Once upon a time, "Dog's Heart" was banned and was only available in samizdat form. But after the film starring Yevgeny Yevstigneyev was released, this work took on a new life, became known to a wide audience, and drew the attention of prominent theater directors. Today this work is more relevant than ever, so it is time to bring it back to the stage and reinterpret it anew.
"Dog's Heart" is a performance that raises questions without clear answers. An attempt to understand why the events of the early 20th century are repeating in a new historical cycle is revealed in the performance with the help of video design, new media, and modern theater technology. The story of Soviet Moscow leaves Russia, where it was created, to meet Bulgakov's audience today.
