Uldis MARHILEVIČS and Jānis ŠIPKĒVICS | Conversations, Music, Life

Conversations about music and life with Uldis Marhilevičs and Jānis Šipkēvics

What is the first impulse from which a song is born? Does its heart lie in the words, the melody, the feeling of the era, or a person’s personal experience?

On November 4 at 7: 00 PM, an evening of conversation about music, creativity, the era, Liepāja, and songs that have become part of the lives of several generations will take place at Pegaza Viesistaba.

On the Pegaza Viesistaba stage, composer, pianist, and arranger Uldis Marhilevičs will meet journalist Jānis Šipkēvics Sr. Together they will look into the invisible side of songmaking, creative searches, inspiration, personal experience, and the time in which the music was created.

A special part of the conversation will be dedicated to Liepāja's musical spirit, a city that has become an important space of creative freedom and from which many of Latvia's outstanding musicians have come. And of course, there will also be performances, when together with the evening's guests we will be able to sing beloved songs.

Uldis Marhilevičs has played in the bands “Liepājas brāļi”, “Inversija”, “Opus”, and “Remix”, took part in performances of the rock opera “Lāčplēsis”, and has collaborated with many Latvian musicians. His composed songs, including “Lūgums” and “Tikai tā”, have become an important part of Latvian musical culture.

Jānis Šipkēvics Sr. is a co-founder and host of Radio SWH and Radio SWH TV, and the author of the books “LV TOP 100” and “Ar dziesmu par dzīvi”. For more than 30 years, he has also hosted the program “Ar dziesmu par dzīvi”, talking with musical personalities from Latvia and around the world.

Conversations about music and life are planned as a regular event at Pegaza Viesistaba, inviting people to look at music differently, through memories, feelings, and stories that grow more valuable with time and continue to live in listeners' memories.

The project is being implemented with financial support from the Liepāja Culture Administration.
