A sound and movement performance

On stage, two young artists meet the most traditional of Latvian musical instruments, the kokle, which they have played together since childhood. In this performance, where no words are spoken, sound and movement become the language of communication. In their hands, the kokle is not just a musical instrument, but a responsive partner in play and a living archive that recalls personal choices and deep roots reaching beyond a single generation.

On stage: Kristīne Tukre and Dzintars Lipors.

Kristīne Tukre

A performer of the concert kokle, currently studying for her master's degree at the Sibelius Academy in Finland, where she is learning to play the classical kantele. In her musical practice, she focuses on contemporary academic and experimental repertoire, exploring its interaction with an instrument rooted in folk music traditions. An important part of her creative work is improvisation and a research-based approach to performance and sound art, as well as teaching. As a soloist and as part of various ensembles, Kristīne regularly performs at experimental and new music festivals.

Dzintars Lipors

An actor and musician, graduated in acting from the University of Central Lancashire in England. Alongside his work as an actor, he plays several instruments, including the kokle, which he has played for more than 18 years. He also works in music composition, improvisation, and dance, combining different movement practices in his artistic work. He performs as a soloist with kokle improvisation and has taken part in several site-specific dance productions, collaborating with choreographers from Latvia and abroad.
