Veloopera “In Kurzeme's Switzerland”

Kaspars Rolšteins' latest artwork, the veloopera “In Kurzeme's Switzerland” is a spy thriller within the genre of experimental music.

The opera tells the story of events during one extended day, when, due to GPS interference, agents of two of the world's most powerful secret organizations, the Basmati Rice Mill and the Green Pea Mill, and professional female cyclists, or carbon eagle riders, have ended up not in Switzerland, but in Kurzeme's Switzerland, in Sabile. There unfolds a struggle over the discovery of a sound secret that is existentially vital to the survival of civilization.

The music for the veloopera “In Kurzeme's Switzerland” was composed over three years, developing and refining the distinctive electronic instrumental sound that Rolšteins, together with Hardijs Lediņš, had already begun, for example, in 1997 in the opera "Rolstein On The Beach" and the subsequent project "Ideal Standard".

Together with artists known on the experimental music scene, Elizabete Balčus, Eleonora Kampi, and Leo Novus, audiences will be able to enjoy the performances of the young, talented artists Katrīna Dambeniece, Alīna Burlakova, and Marta Marija Silāre. This will be their first time in the role of opera soloists.
