Olrihs Krūmiņš Exhibition of Paintings “I Paint on Black…”
By the end of the year, Lielstraupe Castle is hosting an exhibition of works by the vibrant personality and outstanding painter Olrihs Krūmiņš (1924-1989).
Olrihs had lived in Vaičakas in Stalbe parish since 1969. He loved to paint directly from nature, wandering through the fields. His art teacher at the time, the Italian Giovanni Minuti, had said that a true artist destroys the first 1,000 works, because only the ones that come after are art. So Olrihs burned almost all of his early works as well.
Now we can be grateful to fate, coincidence, and also to the residents of the Vaičakas house and their neighbors, who have managed to preserve both Olrihs's early works and those from his mature years, painted on the “black squares” so characteristic of him.
The idea for the exhibition came from Kristaps Otersons, and it is being held with the support of Cēsis Municipality and the Lielstraupe Castle Association.
