Christmas Carols in the Concert Program “Nova! Nova!”

Christmas carol concert program “Nova! Nova!”.

On 19 December at 6: 00 p.m. at the Bauska Castle Museum, the early music ensemble “The Playfords” invites you to listen to Christmas music that has journeyed through the centuries and survived to the present day.

The concert “Nova! Nova!” will let you experience Christmas music in its oldest, yet surprisingly vivid, sound, where ancient calm, solemn reverence and joyful festive energy coexist. In the performance of “The Playfords”, the old melodies gain the freedom of improvisation, playfulness and a lively stage presence, sounding both authentic and modern at the same time.

The ensemble will perform European Christmas music from the 14th to the 18th century - from Germany to England, France and Spain. The ancient melodies will be heard on baroque violin, lute, recorders, viola da gamba, percussion and carillon.

The aim of the early music ensemble “The Playfords” is to revive the nearly lost tradition of the improvising musician of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, allowing the music to reveal a wide range of Christmas moods - from serene restraint to energetic joy - with a few subtle references to the present day as well.

Tickets can be purchased at the Bauska Castle Museum box office (25 euros) and at “Biļešu paradīze” (26 euros).

During the event, visitors may be photographed or recorded on video for publicity purposes.
