DRAWING. Trio Elpo Plays Ivanov
In the program: Ivanov's vocalises and the presentation of Trio Elpo's debut album "Skaņu Akvārijs."
TRIO ELPO are three musicians and friends - Jānis Rubiks, Edgars Cīrulis and Rūdolfs Dankfelds - who, moving freely across genre boundaries in their compositions, create original music in which jazz openness, the depth of contemporary classical music and the energy of rock music intertwine. The trio's sound unfolds in expansive soundscapes that surround the listener, driven by strong rhythmic motion and intuitive interplay between the musicians. At one moment meditative, at another intensely alive, the trio explores the space where structure and spontaneity meet.
In the concert program "Drawing. TRIO ELPO Plays Ivanov," for the first time both compositions inspired by the choral vocalises of the outstanding symphonist and this year's jubilarian Jānis Ivanovs (1906-1983) and the compositions from TRIO ELPO's debut album "Skaņu Akvārijs" will be heard. The musicians say: "Just as water can envelop and cleanse the body, music can cleanse the mind and soul. At a time when the world seems increasingly fragmented and our attention is constantly demanded by the flow of information, these pieces offer space for calm, reflection and a return to our deepest essence."
TRIO ELPO has already visited the Latgale Embassy GORS in the 2024 LNSO Summer House concert program "Sympho.Ethno.Jazz," where, alongside other compositions, one of Jānis Ivanovs' vocalises was also performed in an arrangement for trio and orchestra. This inspired them and created the desire to continue. Visitors to the Latgale Embassy GORS will also remember the excellent concert series "Atmospheres," created in 2022 at GORS's invitation by pianist Edgars Cīrulis and his like-minded collaborators.
