EXHIBITION | IEVA VORKALE | THE INVISIBLE ONES
From August 24 to October 30, the exhibition hall of the Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace will host artist Ieva Vorkale's exhibition "The Invisible Ones". This exhibition brings together two series of works: "The Invisible Ones" and "The Participle of Doing".
In both charcoal drawing series, though visually different, the artist explores one theme: invisibility. In almost every woman's life there are times when her personality and needs become secondary. This becomes most apparent when becoming the mother of a small child. Artists feel this stage especially strongly: busy caring for a baby, they lack time, silence, space, and free hands for their own creativity, and as personalities they seem invisible. At the same time, motherhood is the most dual stage in a woman's life, when highly contradictory feelings and phenomena can exist side by side.
During the First World War, ships were often painted with stripes to make them less visible on the enemy's radar and to confuse submarines. This distinctive striped camouflage was chosen as a symbol of invisibility, but at the same time also of safety, protection, attack, and duality.
N.B. The exhibition can be viewed FREE OF CHARGE every day from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace.
