Solo Exhibition by Artist Maira Daņilāne, “Flow,” at Rauna Library

From October 1 to 31, 2026, a solo exhibition of works by painter and art educator Maira Daņilāne, “Flow,” will be on view at the Rauna Library in the Smiltene Municipality. The exhibition brings together vibrant works in the artist’s original techniques, where the scope of monumental painting meets the delicacy of silk painting.

The roots of Maira Daņilāne’s creative work lie in a strong academic foundation - she graduated from Janis Rozentāls Riga Art School and the Monumental Painting Department of the Art Academy of Latvia (LMA). For many years, the artist has worked as a teacher at the Arts Education Competence Center Riga Design and Art Secondary School (MIKC RDMV) and Māra Muižniece Riga Art School (MMRMS). In recognition of her significant professional contribution and the nurturing of young talent, the artist received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia in 2026.

The power of color and confidence of line are also vividly reflected in the artist’s chosen experimental original technique on silk, where flowing areas of color alternate with graphically precise drawing. The works on display in the exhibition “Flow” invite viewers to look into a stylized, mythical world of plants and nature. Floral motifs dominate the paintings, transforming through rich color contrasts into stories about the force of life and the changing nature of the world. Each work is like a separate microcosm, where fiery pinks and reds coexist with mysterious blues and natural green accents.

Artist Maira Daņilāne on the exhibition:

“The school of monumental painting taught me to work with large scale and a sense of space, but working with the flow of color on fabric allows that scope to gain lightness and emotional fragility. The title ‘Flow’ embodies both the technical process and nature’s continuous movement and change. Through this exhibition, I am trying to capture the feeling of a moment and the untamed beauty of nature.”
