Poetry Days Full Moon Evening “FULL MOON IN THE FIR TREES, FULL MOON IN THE HEART, FULL MOON IN THE WINDOW”

On 26 September, from 18:00 until midnight, a full moon evening will take place at the Ziedonis Museum in Murjāņi during Poetry Days, where poetry will meet conversations, music, and dance. Admission is free.

“Swans fly in pairs. The cuckoo calls alone. A small breeze runs along the road, swirls into a whirl, and lifts the dust into the air. Full moon in the fir trees, full moon in the heart, full moon in the window, all night long.” This is how Imants Ziedonis wrote in “Epiphanies” in 1971. On 26 September, on a full moon evening, these words will become the feeling of the evening in Murjāņi, in a place where poetry can not only be read and heard, but also experienced.

Taking into account Imants Ziedonis’s interest in different peoples and cultures, the evening will begin with Kaspars Eihmanis speaking about full moon festivals in Asian cultures.

“In Chinese culture, the full moon is not only a natural phenomenon, it is an image where astronomical time, ritual, and poetic imagination meet. Its roundness invites thoughts of wholeness and reunion, but at the same time of distance as well: the same Moon is seen by people who are not beside one another. In my lecture I will focus on how this tension between presence and absence has shaped the meaning of the full moon in Chinese culture.” So says Kaspars Eihmanis.

After the lecture, the evening will continue with poetry and music. And since poetry can not only be read and listened to, but also felt with the body, by the end of the evening it will turn into poetry dances, songs with the words of Latvian poets and the favorite dance songs of Latvian poets will be heard louder and in movement.

From six in the evening until midnight, the Ziedonis Museum will become a place to meet poetry in a different tempo, slower, closer, and louder.

“For Ziedonis, poetry was never just text on a page. It is a way of looking at the world, noticing people, nature, and what is happening right next to us. That is why during Poetry Days we want to let poetry step out of the book and become a shared experience, by learning, talking, dancing, eating soup, and simply being together,” says Elizabete Pavlovska-Lūre, head of the Ziedonis Museum and class.

There will also be a bonfire, tea, and soup provided by the Ziedonis Museum during the event. Visitors are invited to bring their own food and drinks to enjoy during the evening. 26 September | 18:00–24:00, at the Ziedonis Museum in Murjāņi. Admission is free. The event takes place as part of Poetry Days.
