TLMS "Tīne" 50th Anniversary Exhibition.

From September 5 to October 11, the 50th anniversary exhibition of the Traditional Applied Arts Studio "Tīne" of the "Mazā ģilde" Cultural and Arts Centre will be on view in the exhibition hall of the Traditional Culture and Crafts Centre "Īrga" (Jauniela 29A, Riga): "Half a Century Woven into Time - Handwork, Heartwork".

It all began in 1976 with a basket-weaving circle led by Silvestrs Kušners at the Cultural House of the State Vocational Technical Education system. A year later, the circle was taken over by the Folk Crafts Master Vilhelms Tupiņš, under whose guidance the students improved their craft skills and in 1986 received the name Traditional Applied Arts Studio "Tīne".

In 1987, the studio was taken over by the Folk Crafts Master Edīte Laiviņa. Since 2020, and also at present, the head of the studio has been Līga Tulinska.

Over the course of five decades, the studio members, with care and love for traditional applied arts, have created woven works from natural materials - willow rods and strips, pine and spruce roots, reeds, and other gifts of nature. In the hands of the мастers, they are transformed into beautiful and practical items in which craftsmanship, creativity, and warmth of heart are woven together.

The works of the members of TLMS "Tīne" have been shown in countless studio review exhibitions, thematic exhibitions, city and national exhibitions of traditional applied arts, as well as traveling exhibitions in Latvia and beyond its borders.

The anniversary exhibition "Half a Century Woven into Time - Handwork, Heartwork" is a story about people, traditions, and the creative spirit that has united the studio members for fifty years.

We are delighted that even today new members join the weaving circle, with interest learning the skills of this ancient craft, finding inspiration in the diversity of natural materials, and continuing the studio "Tīne" tradition with their creativity. Each new craftsperson is like a new thread in the shared weave, helping to preserve and shape the future of traditional applied arts.

The exhibition is open every day from 10:00 to 19:00.
