Antonio Vivaldi Sacred Music Concert “Vivaldi. Musica Sacra”
One of the central events of the Collegium Early Music Christmas Festival will take place on 13 December, when the concert “Vivaldi. Musica sacra”, dedicated to Antonio Vivaldi’s sacred music, will resonate in the vaults of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Riga.
Antonio Vivaldi’s name is most often associated with his dazzling instrumental concertos and the legendary cycle “The Four Seasons”, but an important part of the composer’s output also consists of sacred music. In it, Vivaldi’s characteristic rhythmic vitality, virtuosity and vivid musical contrasts meet sacred texts, creating music in which solemnity, drama, brightness and deeply personal prayer are intertwined.
The concert will bring together a wide range of performers: the CSP mixed choir “Mediāna”, the mixed choir “Domino” and the chamber choir “Austrums”, soloists Monta Martinsone (soprano), Rūdis Cebulis (sopranist), Vitālijs Stankevičs (tenor) and Eduards Fiskovičs (baritone), as well as the Baroque orchestra “Collegium Musicum Riga” under the direction of Māris Kupčs.
The concert will take place on 13 December at 7:00 p.m. in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Riga, 2 Klostera Street, Riga. Admission is by free invitation, available at the “Biļešu Paradīze” box offices.
