For the 16th time on the Second Day of Christmas, countertenor Sergejs Jēgers’ special voice and the traditional Christmas concert AVE MARIA will be heard. This time, however, for the first time in the concert’s history, it will not take place in Riga Cathedral, but in Riga St. John’s Church.

This will be a musically rich festive evening, in which the church’s special atmosphere will be enhanced by outstanding Latvian musicians. Together with Sergejs Jēgers, the virtuoso organist Diāna Jaunzeme-Portnaja, the charming violinist Agnese Kanniņa and the masterful double bassist Jānis Stafeckis will traditionally perform on stage. For the third time, the boys’ choir of Riga Jugla Secondary School, under the direction of conductor Žanete Jansone, will also take part in the concert as a special guest.

The AVE MARIA program will weave together a centuries-old musical tradition and the brightness of the Christmas season. Listeners will hear interpretations of Ave Maria by various composers, refined Baroque gems, instrumental works, music by Latvian composers and beloved Christmas melodies.
