ENDLESS FLOW | Directed by Liena Šmukste

It is a sensory-based performance that uses fragments from Edvarts Virza’s “Straumēni”.

The performance is suitable for people with visual impairments. No one will see this performance, but will experience it through sounds, scents, touch, and physical contact, the calm flow of life and nature. The director says, “At a time when the world is rushing ahead at a fast pace and it seems that hours have become shorter, technology is taking over everything, and people more often experience feelings of anxiety and panic attacks. There is a creeping feeling that one wants to stop, take only the closest people with them, or be alone and return to the beginnings - to peace, the passage of time, cyclicality, authentic sounds, nature - the order of things as our ancestors knew it. But at the moment, that is not so easy to do, because ‘once you step off a moving train, it is hard to jump back on.’” Meanwhile, E. Virza’s “Straumēni” is like a haven of peace, the beginning of everything, and the apparent idyll of the world. Time flows at its own pace, nature lets you smell and feel every breath of wind to the very core, hear the hum of bees, and feel the touch of each season.”
