Collection Exhibition “Waiting for Guests”

The permanent exhibition at the National History Museum of Latvia presents more than 1,500 historical objects and engaging digital content telling the story of the land of Latvia and its people from the earliest times to the present day. The passage of time in the exhibition is shown through a person’s belonging to communities - family, estate, congregation, association or movement, party - leading up to today, when we experience new forms of cooperation and shared goals.

The theme of identity, belonging, and the various elements that unite society is relevant today as well. Where do I belong today? What connects me with the rest of society? Has the meaning and scale of each person’s sense of belonging changed, and if so, how? The exhibition encourages visitors to seek answers to these questions.
