Concert dedicated to the 108th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, Go, Proclaim It to the Whole World!
Concert dedicated to the 108th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, “Go, proclaim it to the whole world!”
At the heart of the concert dedicated to Latvia’s birthday, “Go, proclaim it to the whole world!”, will be the music of composer Jānis Lūsēns, as always captivating, relevant, and timeless, with the composer himself at the piano.
The concert title is inspired by the joint work of Jānis Lūsēns and poet Māra Zālīte, the musical “Meierovics,” in which the idea of a person’s loyalty to their land, to the idea of Latvia’s independence, to carrying its name into the world, and to the ability to change history through determination, becomes the guiding theme of the entire program. The compositions, written in different periods, differ in mood and form, yet again and again they raise questions that are essential to each of us, about freedom and belonging, each person’s responsibility, and what Latvia means to each of us.
Jānis Lūsēns’s music always speaks to the listener, melodic, layered, and precise. The program “Go, proclaim it to the whole world!” will bring together well-known, beloved compositions from the musical poem “How an Apple Orchard Is Freedom,” dedicated to Latvia’s freedom struggles and the Latvian riflemen, the concert performance “Mystery of a Dream and Love,” and other recognizable works, while the evening’s musical landscape will also be enriched by the first performance of two new compositions, “The Branch of Dievkociņš” with words by Antons Austriņš, and “When I Have Been Renewed” with text by Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš.
Together with composer Jānis Lūsēns, his wonderful music will be performed by the mixed choir “Laudate” (artistic director Jānis Misiņš), the mixed choir “Saknes” (artistic director Jānis Almanis-Palmbahs), soloists Elizabete Laura Porgante and Jānis Misiņš, flutist Evija Mundeciema, bass guitarist Jānis Rubiks, and percussionist Uģis Upenieks. The concert story will be shaped and told by musicologist Liene Jakovļeva.
“Go, proclaim it to the whole world!” will be an event during National Holiday Week about the idea of freedom expressed in music.
