Fatboy Slim concert
At a time when 1990s electronic music was searching for new forms, Fatboy Slim blended house and breakbeat rhythms with influences from hip-hop, funk, and rock, creating a sound that soon broke far beyond club walls.
Fatboy Slim, whose real name is Norman Quentin Cook, rose to worldwide fame in the second half of the 1990s, when big beat an energetic fusion of breakbeat, house, hip-hop, funk, and rock made its presence felt more and more strongly in electronic music. His debut album, “Better Living Through Chemistry,” released in 1996, was followed by “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby,” which placed him among the most in-demand producers and DJs of his time. The included “The Rockafeller Skank” and “Praise You” became classics of 1990s dance music, while the “Praise You” music video directed by Spike Jonze, featuring a seemingly random group of dancers in front of a cinema, became one of the most recognizable music videos of its era.
