Folk Dance Concert “Entwined, Tangled Together”

The mid-generation folk dance ensemble “Vija” and the senior dance ensemble “Senvija” of the Riga Latvian Society, together with their friendship dance ensembles, invite you to the folk dance concert “Entwined, Tangled Together”.

Dancers of different generations will intertwine in dance at the concert, revealing the joy of meeting and being together. Taking the stage will be the Riga Latvian Society’s mid-generation dance ensemble “Vija” (led by Keita Straume) and the Riga Latvian Society’s senior dance ensemble “Senvija” (led by Antra Vilcāne), the Skulte Parish mid-generation dance ensemble “Lecam pa vecam” (led by Sanita Martinsone), the mid-generation dance ensemble “Rakstā” (led by Ilze Vilkāja), the mid-generation dance group “Viducis” of the Jaunolaine Cultural House (led by Elīna Grebežniece), the dance ensemble “Čūskas” (led by Laura Pirsko), the mid-generation dance ensemble “Dižbramaņi” of the Riga VEF Cultural Palace (led by Taiga Ludborža), the children’s dance ensemble “Apodzēni” of Mārupes Primary School (led by Keita Straume), and the children’s folk dance ensemble “Ābecītis” (led by Inga Andiņa).

“We meet, intertwine, and become a beautiful Latvian braid. Each of us is a thread, with our own story, character, dreams, and path. In the moment when our paths cross, a pattern begins to form. From separate threads comes a braid, from separate steps comes a dance, and from many people comes a whole united by a common rhythm and a sense of belonging. The concert’s special symbol is the Latvian braid, which, like a living silver thread, weaves through the centuries, bringing together the strength, beauty, and indomitable spirit of our nation. Once again, the braid will wind around the dancers, connect movements, and create a changing pattern. It will remind us that no thread is superfluous and that it is precisely in diversity that our shared strength lies,” says the concert’s artistic director Keita Straume.

The folk dance concert “Entwined, Tangled Together” invites you to look into stories of meetings and relationships in which joy intertwines with longing, closeness with distance, and tradition meets the present day. These are stories of moments when we become tangled and untangled, drift apart and find our way back to one another. For it is meeting and being together that create our shared pattern.

12% of the concert’s proceeds will be donated by the Riga Latvian Society in support of Ukraine.

The concert may be filmed and photographed. The photo and video materials may later be used for event publicity.
