A musical performance

He lived fast and without brakes. He could compose a song in fifteen minutes. He proudly shared a beer glass with his dog. And arguing with him was impossible. Etiquette did not apply to him, and he adored onions. He kept the chinchilla that drowned in a flowerpot in the freezer, but calmed his nerves by knitting. His religion was friendship, his land of happiness - the stage. This is only a tiny part of what reveals Mārtiņš Freimanis' paradoxical, contradiction-filled personality.

Almost fifteen years have passed since Freimanis' passing, and yet he is still here - on radio stations, in memories, in stories. Full of paradoxes and contradictions, untamed and shameless.

Mārtiņš more than once asked that no drama be made out of his life story, but he lived in such a way that it would be hard to follow that request.

In his short life, Freimanis managed to leave behind an immense musical legacy and almost as many legends about his personality. Those who knew Mārtiņš, both near and far, still ask themselves - were the songs about heaven and flying away a prophecy or a suppressed cry for help? There are many versions, and although the outcome cannot be changed, it is intriguing to guess what kind of person he was, now that we can restore him only through memories and immortalized moments.

Memories are almost the same as fantasies, and over time it becomes impossible to separate them. Especially when we speak of Freimanis, who even in his lifetime freely blurred the line between truth and fantasy. That is why this will not be a documentary biographical story, but a collage of moments about the dual nature of a person. Of weaknesses that break and consume, driving one to extremes. And of the unquenchable emptiness within, which is easier to sing than to survive.
