New Year’s Concert “Night in Venice”

The classical music guild “Euterpe” has created a new, melodiously splendid New Year’s concert, “NIGHT IN VENICE”. At the heart of the concert, as the title suggests, will be the legendary cradle of Italian culture, Venice, or the historically called “La Serenissima”.

Venice has carried this name through the centuries. It evokes images of ancient greatness, authoritarianism, and refinement that characterized the city of the lagoon during its period as a maritime power.

For more than three centuries, from the 16th to the 19th century, Venice was one of Europe’s most important musical capitals, significantly influencing the development of academic, sacred, and opera music. Its strategic geographical location, as well as its extensive network of patrons and cultural institutions, enabled “La Serenissima” to create an exceptionally rich and dynamic musical life. Many famous Italian composers were born in Venice, such as Antonio Vivaldi, Benedetto Marcello, Baldassare Galuppi, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, and others. Also

Also in the 19th and 20th centuries, Venice retained its importance as one of Europe’s musical centers. Many writers, and later likewise composers, chose the shadowed, evocative lagoon city as the setting for their works.

This interesting and eclectic Venetian musical mosaic, from the Baroque period to the 20th century, will form the basis of the New Year’s concert program.
