Chamber Music Evenings. “Blue Sky in Golden Clouds”. Liene Denisjuka-Straupe, Maija Zandberga, Elīna Endzele, Kristīne Paula

At the Imanta Culture Centre, the autumn season of the Chamber Music Evenings will conclude with the concert program “Blue Sky in Golden Clouds,” featuring Liene Denisjuka-Straupe, Maija Zandberga, Elīna Endzele, and Kristīne Paula.

The inspiration for the program is Aspazija’s childhood memoir dilogy Blue Sky in Golden Clouds. Inspired by themes of nature, the composers Indra Riše and Sabīne Ķezbere have created new works for flute, marimba, and piano. Sabīne Ķezbere’s piece “Luminous” and Indra Riše’s “The Great Forest and the Rest” reveal different yet mutually complementary perspectives on nature.

With the theme of nature running through the entire program, the concert will also feature François Couperin’s “The Nightingale in Love,” Léo Delibes’ “Flower Duet,” Jonas Bové’s “Northern Suite,” Philippe Gaubert’s “Greek Divertissement,” Ian Clarke’s “Maya,” as well as the joint work by Jan Schlicker and Neil Rowe, “Morning Clouds.”

The concert will especially highlight the timbral diversity of the flute. Alongside the flute, the piccolo and alto flute will also be heard, while the marimba will give the program a colorful, multilayered, and pictorial sound. The various instrumental combinations will reveal a wide range of musical moods, from the nightingale’s song and the fragility of flowers to the expansiveness of northern landscapes and the mystery of the forest.

The concert will be hosted by Liene Denisjuka-Straupe, who will enrich the musical experience with narration and reveal to the audience the connection between the program’s works and the theme of nature.

The concert is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation.
