The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Michele Gamba
This season, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 100th anniversary, affirming its significant place in Latvia’s cultural life and Europe’s musical landscape. Founded in 1926, the LNSO is the oldest symphony orchestra in Latvia, whose century of activity has shaped the country’s professional music traditions. The orchestra performs in the most prestigious concert halls, collaborates with world-renowned conductors and soloists, and represents Latvian musical culture on international concert tours and recordings.
At the Latvija Concert Hall, audiences will have the chance to experience one of the concerts in the LNSO centenary season - a program where French elegance, Italian musical brilliance, and the monumental orchestral language of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók come together. Brilliant melodies, striking orchestral timbres, and an emotionally rich musical program will create an evening that allows the full power and diversity of the orchestra’s sound to be enjoyed in all its splendor.
At the podium will be Italian conductor Michele Gamba, who in recent years has become one of the most sought-after interpreters of opera and symphonic music among the younger generation in Europe. He has worked with outstanding musicians such as Antonio Pappano and Daniel Barenboim, serving as their assistant in major opera houses and concert halls, and currently conducts regularly at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Berlin State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and elsewhere around the world. Michele Gamba is especially valued for vivid, dramatically compelling interpretations that combine Italian musical tradition, energetic stage presence, and refined orchestral shaping.
The centenary concerts are a special event for both the orchestra and the audience. It is a rare opportunity to experience Latvia’s finest symphonic ensemble in its anniversary season and to be part of a story that has been written in Latvian culture for 100 years.
The concert is included in the new subscription of the Latvija Concert Hall.
