Half a Century. Myth or Truth? | A Concert Story by Pianist Liene Circene
Ten pieces. Ten chapters of a life. One question: where does myth end and truth begin?
“Half a Century. Myth or Truth?” is not a traditional anniversary concert. It is an open and self-ironic concert story in which each piece becomes one chapter of a life, and music and words become a single dramatic arc: from the first breath and the wonder of childhood to choices, love, and the ability, after all that has been experienced, to say yes to life.
Pärt’s silence, Mozart’s playfulness, Sisask’s two skies, Katsar’s humor, Glass’s flow, Chopin’s choices, and Cowell’s voice of rupture lead to Beethoven’s untamed life force, Liszt’s love, and the dazzling Tarantella, from the first barely audible sound to a breathtaking finale.
Because life is not something to be taken for granted. Life is a gift.
If you had to tell your life in ten pieces, what in it would be truth and what would be myth?
Liene Circene is a laureate of the Grand Music Award and international competitions, including second place at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition. She is rarely seen in solo recitals. In her everyday work as an accompanist, she helps other people’s stories sound, but this time it will be her own. Foreign critics have highlighted the unusual poetic quality, subtle sensitivity, and striking technical mastery of her playing: “One can never predict where she will take the listener.”
