Raimonds Igolnieks 80 | Wind Orchestra “Daugava”

We invite you to the concert of the professional wind orchestra Daugava of the Unity House, a tribute marking the 80th anniversary of the outstanding conductor, teacher, and founder of the professional wind orchestra Daugava, Raimonds Igolnieks.

The concert will feature soloist Ilona Bagele of the Latvian National Opera. The program will include works by Raimonds Pauls, Pēteris Butāns, Gunārs Ordelovskis, and Jānis Ivanovs, as well as arrangements by Aivars Krūmiņš and Raimonds Igolnieks.

Raimonds Igolnieks (born October 17, 1946) is the founder of the professional wind orchestra Daugava; until 2009 he was its chief conductor, from 2001 to 2007 he headed the NBS Land Forces Orchestra, and before that he worked in education as a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Music Pedagogy of Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute and as a teacher in the wind and percussion department of Daugavpils Music School. Since 2010 he has been an Honorary Citizen of Daugavpils. He has earned respect and authority among Latvia's orchestral conductors and musicians, and served as chief conductor of the Latvian Wind Orchestra Gatherings (1988-2010), chief conductor of the Latgale Song Festivals since 1990, honorary chief conductor of the Latgale Song Festivals since 2015, chief conductor of the wind orchestras at the All-Latvian Song Festivals (1990, 1993, 1998, 2003), and since 2013, honorary chief conductor of all wind orchestras at the All-Latvian Song Festivals.

The concert is organized by the municipal institution “Vienības nams” of Daugavpils city, with support from Daugavpils city municipality.
