Reinis Zariņš. UNDULATIONS. Album Launch Evening

On October 16 at 6: 00 p.m. at Spīķeri Concert Hall, pianist Reinis Zariņš invites you to the launch evening of his latest double album of Latvian piano music, UNDULATIONS.

UNDULATIONS, or WAVES, is a many-sided portrait of 21st-century Latvian piano music. Reinis Zariņš says: “The music I have included in this album is personally important to me, because many of these works were written especially for me, or I was their first interpreter. This music speaks to me as friendships with its authors, their trust and courage. Although this collection, of course, does not include all of our recent piano music, what is there, in my opinion, forms a rich snapshot of the musical treasures that are now breathing and walking among us.”

UNDULATIONS brings together Latvian composers of different generations and styles: Andris Dzenītis, Santa Ratniece, Matīss Čudars, Linda Leimane, Kristu Auznieks, Andrejs Selickis, Imants Zemzaris, Georgs Pelēcis, and Arturs Maskats. The concert will feature selected works by the composers included on the recording.

During the evening, Reinis himself will tell the audience why the album was given this title, what journey led him to its creation, and what stories lie behind the music heard on the recording. There will also be a chance to meet some of the composers featured on the album in person, purchase the new recording, and of course get autographs.

Reinis Zariņš is one of Latvia’s most distinguished concert pianists, a five-time recipient of the Grand Music Award and an Officer of the Order of the Three Stars. Latvian music holds an important place in his artistic work, and his discography includes works by Jānis Mediņš, Pēteris Vasks, Lūcija Garūta, Jāzeps Vītols, Volfgangs Dārziņš, Andris Dzenītis, and other Latvian composers.

The album is released by the record label SKANi.
