STABULNIEKS AND THE RABBITS | Lauris Gundars

STABULNIEKS AND THE RABBITS | Lauris Gundars

Musical performance.

Who has not found themselves in a situation where another generation does not understand something? When the young are angry with the older generation and vice versa. Often such arguments reach a dead end of mutual misunderstanding, and we give up. Yet the new performance Stabulnieks and the Rabbits has been created to seek understanding and reconciliation. And the universal remedy comes to help: music, song.

The production is based on the play Rabbit Song, performed at Mārtiņš Vilsons Theatre 25 years ago, with music by Uldis Stabulnieks. Today, the last songs of his life are being sung again, trying to understand why they seemed important then. And how important are they today?

Playwright and director Lauris Gundars has created a situation in which both Mārtiņš Vilsons, who once performed in the production, and Agnese Lesniece and Dāvids Kalniņš, who had not yet been born at the time, will be on stage. This will be an open conversation about the phenomenon of life and living, in which seriousness easily turns into comedy, while genuine emotion melts restraint. And for everything, the measure is often a very simple song. Moreover, it is often exactly what brings generations together.
