THE OBSESSED in Riga! Get ready for an especially heavy doom night this November!

THE OBSESSED formed in the late 1970s in Potomac, Maryland, under the leadership of legendary guitarist Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan), drawing inspiration from artists such as Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, The Dictators, and The Stooges.

After early lineup changes and the 1983 Sodden Jackal EP, the band broke up in the late 1980s, when Wino joined Saint Vitus. Later, a previously recorded album was released, which prompted a reunion and led to the 1994 album The Church Within. Despite strong reviews, the band split again after that.

THE OBSESSED returned in 2011 with a reunion show at Roadburn Festival, followed by performances at Hellfest Open Air and Maryland Deathfest.

In 2016, the band resumed active activity and signed with Relapse Records, introducing a new lineup that later became a four-piece again.

In 2017, Sacred was released, the first album in more than twenty years. The lineup later stabilized around Wino, Brian Costantino, Chris Angleberger, and Jason Taylor, leading to the 2024 album Gilded Sorrow, released in collaboration with Ripple Music. Wino himself has described it as one of the heaviest and most complete works of his career.
