Performance "The Three Musketeers"
"All for one. One for all." More than a century and a half after Alexandre Dumas wrote his novel, the musketeers' oath remains one of the most recognizable symbols of friendship and loyalty. "The Three Musketeers" is a story about ideals, courage, and choice, about the ability to stay true to oneself and one's own in a world where everything is constantly changing.
In 2026, the year of Imants Kalniņš's 85th anniversary, the Chekhov Theatre returns once again to this musical legacy. In the new production, I. Kalniņš's music gains a new sound, where the past meets the present, romanticism meets irony, and the maximalism of youth meets experience. The musketeers' story also raises questions that are relevant today: what does friendship mean in a world that is becoming increasingly individualistic? What is honor in modern everyday life? Is it possible to remain loyal at a time when it is so easy to change sides? And can love still change a person and the world?
The Chekhov Theatre's production is also based on Andrey Migla's dramatization. In the new performance, Imants Kalniņš's music sounds in Evisen Protektore's arrangement, while poet Sergejs Timofejevs has rendered Viktors Kalniņš's lyrics into Russian.
