Loneliness

Her gray curls fall a little coquettishly across her forehead. The corners of her lips seem to curl into a faint smile. She sits there in her chair and waits. At times years and memories gather into one heap, but then they twist again into a ball from all the corners of the house like dust. She waits... For what? For someone to open the door or the window, she waits for a spoken word, a caress, even an indifferent glance. You can stop eating sweets, give up smoking, you can recover from the flu with medicine prescribed by a doctor. But what is the cure for loneliness? Going where you will not be alone? But does not being alone mean the same as not being lonely? And what do you do if you are alone, lonely, and, to top it off, sluggish? All that remains is to wait. But for what?
