Christmas Festival. Andrejs Osokins. Brahms, Chopin, Vasks.

Program:

Johannes Brahms, Frédéric Chopin, Pēteris Vasks

Description:

On the second day of Christmas, pianist Andrejs Osokins invites you to a musical conversation in which three masters of piano music will meet - Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) and Pēteris Vasks (1946). The program will feature Chopin's refined, heartfelt and elegant miniatures, Brahms's intermezzi from the mature op. 117 and works in larger forms - the four ballades from the early op. 10, a distinctly romantic and mysterious piece, marking Brahms's interest in Nordic folklore and literature. As the concert's finale and, at the same time, in honor of the outstanding composer Pēteris Vasks's jubilee year, "Cycle for Piano" (1976) will be performed, written half a century ago and masterfully combining spiritual depth with vivid avant-garde searches of the time, confidently establishing itself among the family of European composers.
