Albert Kronbergs’ “Tuntuļu Jurītis”
Why do we love our children? Is it because they can sing, dance, or draw beautifully? Or perhaps because they are our children, and for that reason they are also the loveliest and the best? Little Jurītis is loved and spoiled by everyone on the farm too, despite the various troubles the boy gets himself into. Will Jurītis, bundled up so much that even hedgehogs laugh, become a good pig herder? No, but he will save the fierce goat from being sold. Oh, mushroom picking turns into a terrible adventure. Oh, a simple trip to church on Christmas Eve ends in dreadful alarm for everyone, because Jurītis has gone missing in a snowstorm, but does that make Jurītis any less dear? In the performance, the story of Tuntuļu Jurītis is told by four farm girls who are making Christmas gifts, toys, on the farm. When the work becomes too monotonous, the girls begin playing with the dolls they have made, and that is how the story of Tuntuļu Jurītis begins.
