On October 8, a few days after the Saeima elections, Zuzeum invites you to a conversation about the relationship between art, power, and public participation. How does art help us see power relations? How can it become a space for conversation about issues that matter in society? Whose voices do we hear in the public sphere, and whose experiences remain unnoticed?

For Sandra Krastiņa, painting has always been a way of thinking about power, about who exercises it, how it presents itself, and what it refuses to reveal. In Solveiga Vasiļjeva’s works, sculpture often becomes a model for exploring invisible forces, power relations, and the order of the world. In her works, balance is often only apparent, any movement can alter an already established structure.

The conversation will also address issues of gender equality, human rights, and public participation. How do different experiences and voices enter the public sphere? How do politics and culture influence what we talk about in society? And what role does art play in these processes?

The conversation will feature the artists Sandra Krastiņa and Solveiga Vasiļjeva, as well as Beata Jonite, head of advocacy at the association Marta Centre, and art historian Astrīda Rogule.
