Poetry Concert No. 2

On November 14 at 7: 00 p.m., the second event in the chamber music and poetry cycle, “Poetry Concert No. 2,” will resound in the Great Salon of Cēsis New Castle.

The concert program will feature the poetry of the classic of Latvian literature Kārlis Skalbe, brought to life by the outstanding actress Guna Zariņa with her presence and mastery. The musical atmosphere will be created by brilliant musicians, cellist Kristaps Bergs and violinist Elīna Bukša, performing works by Pēteris Vasks and Maurice Ravel. To help listeners feel even more deeply the interconnection of the works of art and the context in which they were created, the concert will be enriched with short introductory lectures and comments from the artists.

With this poetry concert, Cēsis Museum continues the chamber music and poetry concert cycle, in which the program is created through collaboration between outstanding musicians and interpreters of poetry. The poetry concerts take place in the Great Salon of the New Castle, which historically served as a social gathering place for shared enjoyment of the arts. This historically multilayered chamber space is especially suitable for chamber music and literary readings, providing the audience with a focused and high-quality listening experience. The Great Salon of Cēsis New Castle regained its historical form during the castle’s restoration from 2007 to 2012, and since 1949 the castle has been home to Cēsis Museum, whose diversity of functions adds an additional cultural and historical context to the events.

For the convenience of visitors, a pop-up café will operate on the first floor of the New Castle, in the Vaulted Hall, before and during the concert.

The poetry concert is financially supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation within the project “Cēsis Castle Sounds. A chamber music concert cycle with poetry readings.”
